How do you plan to use the basement?

4 quick questions.

What Do You Want Your Basement to Become?

Basement family room with a ping-pong table, a sofa and a wall TV Finished Living Space A family room, media room or playroom, insulated, heated and finished.
Finished basement bedroom with an iron bed and a red rug Private Suite A bedroom, a bathroom and living space inside your home.
Finished basement office with a bookcase and a wood desk Office or Gym A quiet workspace, a home gym, or both.
Illustration of a basement kitchenette with white cabinets and a sofa Basement ADU A separate unit with its own kitchen and entry, where your city allows it.

A basement remodel shouldn't mean hidden water damage and a budget that keeps climbing.

Pick the wrong contractor and your new basement traps moisture, fails inspection and runs over budget.

Barr always treats our jobs as a priority and is always professional and engaged. We recently had a mould emergency and they were efficient and completed quickly. We always call Volcano with our construction needs since he completed a beautiful bathroom remodel. He is highly recommended!

I was in need of a bathroom remodel after we had discovered a leak in the bathroom. I was completely lost at the beginning of this project but the entire team at volcano especially Bar were extremely helpful and supportive though out the entire project. I ended up redoing my entire bathroom, it is my new favorite part of the house as the team did such a beautiful job. I will definitely be back for all future projects

They were very up front with cost break down and were aligned and lower with other bids we received. The most important thing to me is communication and Sapir our PM was incredible through out the process. A remodel or any type of build can be stressful but working with Sapir and Volcano Build they took the stress away.

FAQs

We assess moisture before anything is designed, and we address it in the plan before insulation and walls go in. Finishing over a damp wall traps the moisture behind it, so any water or humidity issue we find becomes part of your written scope, not a surprise after the walls are up.

Usually, yes, if you add or move walls, wiring, plumbing or ductwork, or add a bedroom. Cosmetic work like paint and flooring often needs none. Your city or county sets the rules, so we check what your scope needs, prepare and submit the permit, and schedule the inspections. A basement bedroom also needs an emergency escape opening, usually an egress window, and we design for it from the start.

Finished living space starts at $50K, a private suite with a bathroom at $85K and a basement ADU or conversion at $150K, as the pricing table above shows. Size, moisture and waterproofing, ceiling height, egress windows, bathrooms and kitchens, and any excavation or structural work move the number most. After a consultation you get a fixed, written price before construction starts.

It depends mostly on what the basement becomes. A finish with no new bathroom or kitchen is the shortest path, a suite with a bathroom takes longer, and a basement ADU takes longest because design, engineering and the permit review come first. Review time is set by your city. You get a written schedule for your scope after the walkthrough, and weekly updates once we start.
